Wat Phra That Pha Kaew

Dream Destination Thailand: Wat Phra That Pha Kaew

History

Established in 2004, Wat Phra That Pha Kaew at that time was called Pha Sorn Kaew holy Buddhist site until The Sangha Supreme Court approved raising the standing to a temple on July 1, 2010. The abbot of is Phra Kru Ajarn Sangkaruk Paramita Surayudtho.

The temple is located at Thang Daeng village hill’s holy place, Camp Son sub district, Khao Kho district, Phetchabun. Faith drove Ms Phawinee and Ms Urai Chotikul to purchase 25 rai land and offer it to the monastery as a Dharma retreat. This place can be used by both monks and Buddhist followers. Currently, the land has expanded to 95 rai as a sacred offering from devotees.

Phra Kru Ajarn Sangkaruk Paramita Surayudtho and Phra Kru Bai Deeka Amnard Opaso, by virtue of friendship, collaborate with followers and people with good faith from all over country to establish accommodation and a preaching hall, provided for the influx of the Lord Buddha’s Foundation of Mindfulness practitioners coming constantly to this holy place. It is now a flourishing center for the contemplation, study and practice of the Dharma much to the delight of all involved.

The Buddhist centre called Pha Sorn Kaew is surrounded by high mountains. There the preaching hall is located while a cave is at mountain’s summit. Many Thang Daeng villagers have seen a crystal marble floating on the horizon and disappearing in the cave. They believe that the marble, in fact, is the Holy Relic coming down to the sacred place, so Phra Sorn Kaew, the hidden cliff of marble. This Buddhist site surrounded by mountain ranges is a peaceful place to withdraw and contemplate the deeper teaching and practice of Buddhism.

Purpose
This temple exists with an intention to be a place for the Foundation of Mindfulness practice, which is a core Buddhist principle. This teaching is the great path to purity of body and mind, extinguishment of sorrow the Noble Eightfold path and Nirvana achievement in accordance with Buddhist doctrine.

Solitary and surrounded by gorgeous nature, meditation is inspired by natural beauty. Bliss brings contemplation and meditation gives rise to wisdom. Because all dharma arises from causes and conditions, Wat Phra Sorn Kaew originates from this perspective.

Buddhist practice
The heart of Buddhist practice is taught here. An all-you-can-eat buffet in Bangkok is the smart choice if you are looking to stock up on a budget, and with any of the favorite places you can indulge for less than 500 baht – incredibly good value!

It’s true that many five-star hotels have very expensive brunches or dinner that can really burn a hole in your pocket, but with these choice picks you get tasty food at amazing rates. On our list we have wide ranging hotel spreads, sizzling curries and meaty barbecues, so whatever you fancy you should find something suitable. The layout is bland and a little like a canteen, but the service is prompt and the plates of salmon and tuna sashimi just keep on coming. Other highlights include ‘toriyaki’ chicken sticks, grilled beef, ramen noodles, and shrimp tempura. Kuroda has several branches but the one on Ekkamai is the easiest to find. It is 200 metres from the junction with Sukhumvit on the left hand side of the road.

If you haven’t heard of a Thai BBQ before, your life is about to change. It’s an all you can eat meat buffet, where you get to cook your own food! Pla Thong Buffet is a Thai BBQ situated only a block away from the Victory Monument in Central Bangkok. This makes it very accessible, by either the BTS Sky Train, or the local Bus services. This massive open-air Thai BBQ was bustling with what looked could be over 100 tables, each with 4 seats and I’d say about 80% of the restaurant was full! Centered in the back of the huge hall was a mighty meat, noodle, veggie and dessert buffet tables. The smell of the Thai BBQ’s filled the streets even before entering the restaurant.

Open: 05:00 PM - Late Night.

This shabu-shabu franchise is a ubiquitous presence in shopping malls across Bangkok, often with lines of people waiting to get inside to feast for 1.5 hours for 350 baht. Each Shabushi branch is designed in the same way, very much like a sushi train restaurant. Stools are lined up along a revolving conveyor belt which delivers the variety of ingredients to your seat, which you then boil in your pot of either spicy tom yum flavour broth or a lighter, salty broth. Ingredients range from fish, clams and shrimp, to beef, chicken and all manner of vegetables. There is also a sushi area, free soft drinks and ice cream.

Location: MBK/CentralWorld/Siam Center

Best Beef
229+ baht (2 hours’ time limit)

Best Beef is located in On Nut, east of downtown Bangkok but still close to the BTS, and is hugely popular with locals and expats thanks to the huge selection of barbecued meats and vegetables available for just 229 baht for two hours. This open-air but under-cover restaurant gets hot and you will smell like beef for the rest of the evening due to the spit-back from the iron skillet, but if you are looking for a big, meaty feed just how local Bangkokians do it, Best Beef is highly recommended. The menu (in Thai) has four cuts of beef, three cuts of pork, as well as offal including liver, tongue and intestines, all available in unlimited amounts which you cook yourself directly at the table. When it comes time to order, just point at the pictures and smile.

2015 Bangkok's Coolest night markets

Where To Shop At Night In Bangkok

MOST BOOKED HOTELS

 Asiatique

Asiatique has successfully combined two of the most popular shopping experiences in the city: a night bazaar and a mall. Ten minutes downriver from Saphan Taksin BTS station this once-bustling international trade port has been transformed, with over 1,500 boutiques and 40 restaurants housed under a huge replica warehouse complex. Open from 17:00, spending an evening here is no problem: you’ll have good fun browsing the boutiques, picking up gifts or something for yourself; you are guaranteed to find something you would like to eat and if this isn’t enough entertainment, shows are performed nightly.

Opening Hours: 17:00-midnight
Location: Chareonkrung Soi 74-76
How to get there: The easiest and fastest way to get there is via boat. Take the BTS to Saphan Taksin and jump on the free shuttle at the end of the pier. It only takes ten minutes, and the boat runs until 23:00. Taxis are not recommended as the traffic can be terrible in this area.

ArtBox Bangkok

The latest kind of Night Market to hit Bangkok. Unlike the so-called Container Market at the Bloc, here all the booths are actually organized inside real shipping containers. It also aims to attract hipsters with a “vintage style” theme with 300 stalls in the fashion zone and over 100 stalls in the food and cafe zone.

Opening Hours: Fridays - Sunday 15:00-24:00 ( Some week might close because of rain, So please check before you go.)

Location: MRT sirikit exit2,

 Chatuchak Friday Night Market

The massive Chatuchak Market fills up every weekend, but not many know that you can actually come here for some night time shopping on Fridays, as vendors set up their stalls from around 21:00 until late. Expect much of the same as in the day on Saturdays and Sundays – just less heat, fewer people and not so many stalls open (for example, the homeware, gardening and pets sections are all closed). There’s more of a chilled-out, local vibe – with most of the main stores, restaurants and bars open around the main ring road of the market drawing in a young crowd from the nearby universities.

Opening Hours: Fridays 21:00-03:00
Location: Mo Chit BTS or Kampheng Phet MRT Station

 JJ Green

JJ Green Night Market might just be the coolest place to shop in Bangkok, with its much more chilled-out, bohemian vibes when compared to the capital’s gargantuan Chatuchak Weekend Market just down the road. Part vintage flea market, part local drinking hangout, JJ Green is best visited on Thursday to Sunday evening, from 17:00 to 01:00, although many bars here keeps going until after midnight on Saturday and Sunday night, when the market is at its busiest. Come for the decent selection of vintage fashion, antiques, accessories, cheap eats and retro collectables.

Opening Hours: Thursday-Sunday 17:00-01:00
Location: 1 Kamphaeng Phet 3, Chatuchak.
How to go there: Mo Chit BTS or Kampheng Phet MRT Station (Behind Chatuchak)

 On Nut Night Market

Step off the BTS at Ekkamai and you can’t miss this sprawling market, which begins to liven up around dusk, seven days per week. As well as a huge fresh produce section and clothes stalls, the undercover market also has a great beer garden at the back – hugely popular with the neighbourhood’s thriving expat community – and also stages live bands and has sports screens. Order your food and beer from any one of the surrounding vendors around the edge, with everything from Thai food, seafood, burgers, sushi and steaks on offer. It’s on the opposite side of the road to the huge Tesco Lotus Shopping Centre at On Nut.

Opening Hours: 16:00-24:00 Daily
Location: Below On Nut BTS Station

Train Night Market 1 (Srinakarin Road)

At Rod Fai Market, a huge open-air bazaar in the eastern suburbs of Bangkok, the vintage look never goes out of style. Spread on the ground is all kinds of collectibles and memorabilia from the yesteryear, from antique furniture to hippy fashion to Mao kitsch. Rod Fai Market definitely stands out from the hordes of outdoor markets across Bangkok but it could be hard to find as it’s spread out on a huge plot of land behind Seacon Square on Srinakarin Road.

Opening Hours: 17:00 - midnight (Thurs-Sun)
Location: Srinakarin Road Soi 51 (behind Seacon Square)
BTS: On Nut (closest station but still requires a taxi journey)

Train Night Market 2 (Ratchada)

The new Rot Fai Market in the Ratchada area of Bangkok is bringing the same convivial night bazaar feel, antiques curios, and street food snacks and treats from its original location, into an area of the city that is much easier to access thanks to the nearby Cultural Centre MRT Underground Station.

This new Train Market is more central and compact, meaning it’s easier to pop in for a spot of browsing anytime from 18:00 to 24:00, Thursday to Sunday.

Opening Hours: 18:00 to 24:00, Thursday to Sunday (Other day will be car boots sale)
Location: Ratcadaphisek Road (close to Esplanade Shopping Mall)
How to go there; Stop at MRT Thailand Cultural Centre, exit No. 3

 Silom Road Walking Street (Sunday)

Silom Walking Street sees one of Bangkok’s most famous roads closed down, making way for huge pedestrianized zone that gets packed-out with hundreds of food, fashion, and electronics vendors. It runs every Sunday from 15:00 until around 22:00 and is particular easy to find in the center of Bangkok – directly underneath Sala Daeng BTS Station.

The market really excels on the street food front; every Thai dish in the history of the kingdom seems to be here, as well as some tasty international offerings like pizza, pastries, kebabs, and steak. There’s also live music, street performances and when we went, a traditional Thai dance show. Read More...

Opening Hours: Sundays 15:00-22:00 (Please note that Silom Walking Street is temporarily closed for rainy season during June and July. The exact reopening is still to be confirmed.
Location: Silom Road (Sala Daeng BTS)

Liab Duan Night Market

Drive a little further out of town and you’ll find this market whose name in Thai means “the market located along the expressway.” This night market transforms 17 rai of land in the Ramintra-Ekkamai neighborhood into pandemonium, with bumper-to-bumper cars crowding the entrance every evening.

Open daily 5pm-12am (Advice go after 630pm)
Address: Night Market near Ram Intra-At Narong Expressway, Praditmanoontham Rd, Bangkok. (Take Taxi  because this night market is not near any BTS or MRT.)

Patpong Night Market

After recently cleaning up its act, Patpong's become one of the 'must' night shopping destinations for avid shoppers. Found in the built-up area known as Silom, the place is always busy and chaotic with all the commotion from the Go-Go bars nearby and lots of foreign tourists. This market in Bangkok's notorious nightlife district is often the first and easiest stop for many tourists just arriving to Bangkok, whilst lodging at one of several mid-to-upper-end hotels in Silom. Be warned though, the quality and prices of most items sold are about as real and trustworthy as the girls shaking their wares in go-go bars flanking the area. Both market and go-go bars seem to complement each other well, but remember not to be fooled by first impressions, and to bargain hard.

Opening Hours: 18:00 - around 01:00 (every day) (Decent Night Market)
How to get there: Coming from BTS Siam station, depart at Sala Daeng station and exit down one of the right-hand stairs. Follow the increasing trail of vendors along the sidewalk, and after five minutes, you'll know you're there.
